Finding Diamond in Minecraft From Mines

Finding a diamond in Minecraft is almost as difficult as finding a diamond in real life. But why would you want such a rare item in the first place? Maybe you want to collect Obsidian to enter Nether. You will need a diamond pickaxe to collect Obsidian and of course, you cannot craft a diamond pickaxe without diamond (you can sometimes find diamond pickaxe, but it all depends on your luck).

Before you come up fully equipped with an axe to mine diamond, keep in mind that you can also find diamonds in chests scattered across the map. Therefore, if you need only a few diamonds, you should probably focus on getting other things done rather than mining diamonds. However, you cannot collect large amounts of diamonds by opening these randomly generated chests, so the mining process is always more effective when it comes to gathering more. If you are lucky enough, you will find chests loaded with a few diamonds exhausted mine shafts and villages.

Stock up on Supplies Before Finding Diamond

Before you embark on your journey to finding diamond in Minecraft, check and ensure that you are not short on any resources. The last thing you want while mining is to run out of resources and return empty-handed. Say you are deep in the mine and suddenly run out of torches and it’s too dark to even move a single step. That’s why it’s always a good idea to carry ample supplies before going deep into the mine.

Here’s a supply checklist before you go underground:

• Food
• Iron Pickaxe or Diamond Pickaxe
• Weapons and Armor (Sometimes, there can be mobs inside the caves and the last thing you want is to get killed).
• Torches (stay above 100)

Did you know that diamond is mostly found in layers 1 through 16? Level 12 is most likely to have an ore compared to other levels. Your chances are best at levels 8 through 13.

Usually coming in veins of 1 to 10 blocks, you need to be extra lucky to find more than 10 blocks of diamonds attached to each other.

Techniques

If you go mining straight down in Minecraft Survival Mode, it will be more than difficult to come back to the ground. If you want to go down to great depths but remain safe, you need to adopt the staircase method. It’s as simple as it sounds! You will go underground in a staircase fashion. Every consecutive step, you will need to dig one block deeper compared to your last dig.  IN case things go wrong deep down at the mine, you can simply return to safety by jumping on the staircase that you just built on your way down.

Make the staircase all the way down to the bedrock layer. Find the bottom most layer and this is called layer 0. Do you sill remember that diamonds are most likely to be found in layer 12 (and 1 block implies 1 layer). Head down to the 12^th layer and make yourself a temporary station there. You don’t need to head all the way back to the top for crafting items if you set up your crafting table and furnace here itself.

It’s time to start digging. There are quite a lot of patterns to dig but these are our favorite:

Branch Mining Pattern

Your primary tunnel will be dug in a 2*2 fashion and there will be secondary tunnels branching out from the primary. You can leave 3 or 4 blocks gap between the consecutive secondary tunnel. This method ensures that you cover a large area in the least time without breaking too many extra blocks.

Strip Mining Pattern

If you have a lot of time, then you can opt for this mining pattern because

1. This pattern is bound to make you diamond-rich.
2. You will also stumble upon other valuable resources including Cobblestone.
