When you look at the post-apocalyptic genre of games there is one series that stands out from all others. Fallout. Set in a future America that has been destroyed by nuclear war, the Fallout games allow players to explore nuclear ravaged wastelands, fighting bandits and mutated monsters, meeting survivour communities, and engage in some of the best stories in gaming.
Fallout began as an isometric RPG. But eventually it became a 3D RPG when Bethesda took over. Fallout 3 was the first title to adopt this new style. Then it was surpassed by the greatest Fallout title, Fallout New Vegas.
But today we are going to take a look at the latest entry in the series. Fallout 76. You may have heard about the game due to the massive controversy surrounding it. But why was it so controversial? And how does it play compared to the former 3D Fallout titles?
Fallout 76 Gameplay
Fallout 76 can be played as either a first person shooter or a third person shooter. You can switch between camera modes at any time. The game places you in the wasteland of West Virginia. You need to explore the world to find quests and loot.
The world is filled with plenty of monsters and raiders. So you need to constantly update your weapon and armor to survive. To do that you will need to scavenge for materials to craft and upgrade your items. Or you can use bottle caps to buy items from vendors or other players.
The First Multiplayer Fallout
Yes that’s right, we did say other players. The big draw of Fallout 76 was the fact that it was the first ever multiplayer Fallout title. Something fans of the series had been wanting for years. The multiplayer system in Fallout 76 is quite interesting. You don’t join a server like other multiplayer games, unless you are joining a private server with friends.
Instead the game randomly puts you into a server with other players. They could be anywhere on the map going about their game as normal. It creates a feeling of the world being more alive and natural. It’s then up to you if you want to go interact with them. Players can party up and work together. Or you can become a raider and sow chaos across the wasteland.
Advance Tips
Fallout 76 is more challenging than other Fallout titles as it puts a greater emphasis on the survival elements. The story takes a back seat to this idea. So here are some tips to help you survive in the brutal radioactive wasteland of West Virginia.
The first one is you need to focus on finding crafting resources. Your weapons will slowly start to break the more you use them. And you want to use your money on buying ammo. So make sure you save some inventory space for finding repair materials.
We also recommend playing in offline mode and making use of fallout 76 cheats and hacks to better learn the ins and outs of the game’s map. You can use the flying cheat to scout out the world and learn where you can find crafting materials and loot. Then when you return to the online mode you’ll know where you need to go.
The Controversy
Fallout 76 was released to overwhelming negative reviews. The game was considered a disaster on release for a number of reasons. Firstly the game was buggy and unstable. But the main issue was the perceived lack of content. The game didn’t feature any human NPC’s to start. All the story was discovered through notes.
Compared to the previous Fallout titles, 76 felt like an incomplete game. But over the last few years Bethesda has been working hard to improve the game. And they’ve done a fantastic job. The game is now receiving a lot of positive attention.
