Motorola launched the latest version of its low-end E lineup, the Moto E6S today in India. The Moto E6S was originally announced as the Moto E6 Plus at IFA a few weeks ago but Motorola decided to launch it in India as the Moto E6S.
Motorola’s E line mostly consists of budget phones generally costing below Rs. 10000/-, which is a very big but competitive market. This means that E phones generally have low-end SOCs and relatively low screen resolutions. But they also have other features still considered important in the low-end market, like microSD card slots and 3.5mm headphone jacks, which have increasingly disappeared from the higher price ranges. Moto E6S is the latest version of the E lineup.
Moto E6S Features
- The Moto E6S has a 6.1 inch IPS LCD display with a 1560 x 720p resolution, which is a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The front will be all glass with a plastic back which is common in this price range.
- The phone is splash resistant and weighs 149.7g, which is pretty light for a phone this size. Like most phones in this price segment, it will have dual SIM capabilities.
- The Moto E6S uses the Mediatek MT6762 Helio P22, which is a 12nm, octa-core SOC using 8 Cortex A53 cores at 2.2 GHz, and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. MediaTek is a very popular choice among phone makers in the budget market, so this choice is definitely not unexpected.
- For the Indian market, Motorola has decided to launch a single variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage, although the international version also has a 3GB/32GB variant. The phone has a microSD card slot, with support for cards up to 512 GB of storage.
- The phone has Android 9.0 Pie, which is a disappointment because Android 10 has already launched, and launching with the previous version of android is not a good look.
- The Moto E6S has a 13MP main camera with a 2MP secondary camera for depth sensing at the back. A dual camera is pretty good for this price range and a first for the E line, although the resolution of the second camera is pretty low. The cameras have all the standard features like 1080p30fps video recording, HDR and panorama. The front camera is an 8MP camera with 1080p30fps recording capabilities.
- The Moto E6S has 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, and a USB 2.0 micro-USB port for charging, and a fingerprint sensor on the back. This is pretty standard for this price range, although Wifi AC and a USB-C port would have made it a much better deal. Most phones are now moving to USB-C, so a new phone launching in 2019 with a micro USB port is in a tough spot.
- Thankfully, the Moto E6S still features a removable, 3000 mAh battery. Removable batteries have practically gone extinct in the last few years, so the fact that the E6S still features this is going to make it a favorite among those who want to keep a second battery to extend the capacity.
- The 3000mAh capacity is quite low for the screen size, although the 1560 x 720 resolution should make sure that it still has a decent screen on time. The USB 2.0 micro USB port means that fast charging is not an option, and the Moto E6S can only use a standard 10W charger. Even a basic 15W fast-charging system would have been a unique feature in this market.
- The phone will come in 3 colours – Polished Graphite, Bright Cherry, and Dark Red.
Moto E6S Price
Motorola has priced the single, 4GB/64GB variant of the E6S at Rs. 7999/-. The Moto E6S will sit between the Moto E6 and the higher-end Moto G line in Motorola’s low-end portfolio.
Motorola’s higher-end products aren’t very popular, so the low and mid-range E and G lines are crucial phones are important for Motorola, and the E6S will hopefully improve Motorola’s market share in this market.
