Oppo recently launched the Oppo Reno2. It is the latest and most high-end phone in the Reno lineup, which Oppo brought to India in May this year. The Reno2 comes after the lower-end Reno2 Z, which was a mid-ranger. So the Reno2 will be for the higher-end(but not flagship) market, competing against the likes of the Oneplus 7T and 7 Pro.
The headlining feature of this phone is obviously the camera, with a quad-camera setup on the back and a new Night Mode, which Oppo calls “Ultra Dark Mode“. Oppo recently promoted these features via a tweet featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.
Oppo Reno2 Specifications and Features
- The Reno2 has a 6.5 inch, 2400 x 1080 pixel OLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. It has glass on both sides, with the front glass being Gorilla Glass 6. The back glass is Gorilla Glass 5.
- The Oppo Reno2 runs on the Snapdragon 730G SOC which is an octa-core CPU with an Adreno 618 GPU.
- The Reno2 comes with ColorOS 6.1 based on Android Pie out of the box. Android Pie on a newly launched phone is disappointing, although ColorOS likely already has all the features from Android 10.
- There’s only a single variant of the Oppo Reno2, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It also has a MicroSD slot with support for cards of up to 256GB.
- As stated above, the headlining feature of the Reno2 is the camera setup. The back has a quad-camera setup. It has a 48MP wide main camera, a 13MP telephoto camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP mono lens. Oppo also has its Ultra Dark Mode, which will compete with Night Modes from Apple, Google and Samsung.
- The front camera is a motorised pop-up 16MP camera. The back cameras can record at 4K30fps, while the front camera can do 1080p30fps.
- The Oppo Reno2 has Wifi AC, Bluetooth 5, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. It also has a beefy 4000 mAh battery with 20W fast-charging.

Oppo Reno2 Price and Availability
The Reno2 is available at most online stores and retailers, at around Rs. 35,800. There’s only a single variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Overall it’s a pretty good device for the price range, the only potential downside being the slightly lower performance SOC compared to OnePlus devices. The camera will probably compete with flagship phones. If Oppo’s Ultra Dark Mode is as good as Apple’s and Google’s Night Mode, this could be a really good camera phone.
