- The phone line version of Assistant offers support for searches, places of interest and more.
Google Assistant is arguably the best voice assistant but for it to work you need to have great internet connectivity. But what happens if you do not have access to a decent internet plan or live in an area with poor connectivity? Google wants to address connectivity issues by introducing a phone line variant of its Assistant service. Assistant users in India will now be able to dial a number and get responses from the service.
Phone Line Partnership with Vodafone Idea
Google has partnered with Vodafone Idea to bring the new phone line service to Indian users. There is a toll-free number you can dial to talk to Assistant instantly. Simply call 000-800-9191-000 to get access to Google’s Assistant services via cellular network. The call-based assistant currently supports English and Hindi with no word on additional language support from Google.
You can run search queries, find nearby places of interest, search for addresses and more. The service is very similar to Google Assistant’s text-based search results in the official app or Google Home devices. Getting access to a voice-based version of Assistant without requiring internet connectivity can be quite helpful for users who do not have access to proper internet connectivity on their smartphones.
You do not need to be a Vodafone Idea user to get access to the new service, anyone in India can call the number to avail the free service. In addition to the new phone line service, Google Assistant is also receiving a number of upgrades. You can change Assistant’s language using voice commands. For example, if you want to change the language from English to Hindi, simply use the “OK Google, Hindi bolo” command. Support for Hindi in Google Assistant will also be extended to Android TVs in the near future.
