Rockstar Allegedly Working on Grand Theft Auto 3 Remaster

The iconic action-adventure game may soon be updated with HD graphics and new content

  • Rockstar may be working on a remastered version of Grand Theft Auto 3.
  • The remaster could drop as early as October 22 according to rumors.
  • GTA 3 is an action-adventure game that popularized the series back in 2001.

Even though Grand Theft V broke a ton of records and became the highest-grossing entertainment product of all time, fans of older Grand Theft Auto games reminisce how great the older titles are. And we do not blame them as titles like Grand Theft Auto 3 made the genre what it is today. It is undoubtedly one of the most important titles in gaming of all time.

While rumors surrounding the Grand Theft 3 remaster first dropped when the new Rockstar Launcher came out, there are now more signs pointing at the unannounced game. Australia’s Department of Communication and the Arts just classified a new product titled Grand Theft Auto 3. No other details surrounding the project are available with the classification being assigned just today.

According to media reports, it could mean nothing at all as there is already an enhanced port of the title on PS4 and it may be a case of a late classification. But the chances of the PS4 variant making it to other platforms have a strong possibility. There are rarely any instances where a game is classified well after its release and we are more than likely going to get a remastered version on either the Xbox One, PC or Nintendo Switch.

GTA 3 first came out in 2001 and we are very close to the 18-year anniversary of the iconic title. A surprise launch next month would be more than welcome. The only catch is we do not know which platform the title is coming to. With Grand Theft Auto 3 getting a surprise port on mobile, we may receive similar treatment for the Nintendo Switch as well. There is no word on any new content that may be added with the remaster but we can be hopeful for some easter eggs and special missions that are usually added with remasters from time to time.

We are very excited for the release of Grand Theft Auto 3 Remastered and can’t’ wait to get our hands on the title with upgraded visuals. What platform do you want the remaster to drop on? Let us know in the comments below.
