Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons – What to Expect From Hearthstone’s Final Set of 2019
Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons is going to bring in new mechanics and gameplay elements to Blizzard's popular CCG.
Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons is the final expansion for Hearthstone this year. Earlier this year, the League of EVIL took over, and we have been following their antics since then. Reno and his fellow explorers are back at it again, and we may finally see the ultimate faceoff between Reno’s gang and Rafaam, Togwaggle, and Lazul.
Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons – Overview
Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons will see our band of heroes fight the League of EVIL at Dragonblight. For those who are familiar with World of Warcraft, they will recognize the location instantly. After their initial faceoff in Uldum, Rafaam seems to have escaped and has other plans up his sleeves.
Galakrond will be the main focus of the upcoming expansion. While Galakrond is not present to protect the dragonkin anymore, his kin is being manipulated by Rafaam. Galakrond may be resurrected to wreak havoc on all of the Warcraft universe unless our League of Explorers can stop them. The expansion releases on December 10th this year.
We are going to get a full set of new cards, a roguelike mode that will be free to access, a paid adventure that will likely close the story of the current year, and a brand new game mode. Hearthstone: Battlegrounds is a new mode that is coming along with Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons. We will be getting a competitor to the likes of League of Legends’ Teamfight Tactics and Dota Underlords. The auto-chess games were initially meant to compete against Hearthstone, but they ended up developing their own flavor. Now Hearthstone seeks to fight back in the crowded auto-chess market and take its throne.
Galakrond
Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons will feature Galakrond as a hero card. And we are not talking about just one hero card. We will see the ancient dragon manifest itself as five unique hero cards for five classes. Druid, Hunter, Mage, and Paladin will be left out this time, and they will not be receiving their own take on Galakrond. But we might get other hero cards for them, so stay tuned to see if Blizzard gives us some powerful endgame tools.
Invoke
Invoke is a new mechanic that is being added to the game. You essentially will need to play Invoke cards to buff up the hero power of Galakrond. The more Invoke cards you play, the better your hero power gets. But this also means they are useful only when Galakrond is active. Finding the right balance between the number of Invoke cards in your deck and your other tools are going to be difficult and test your ability to build decks.
Meta Overview
As of 2019, the meta was quite stale, but Blizzard shook things up by introducing some cards from Wild back into Standard. With the introduction of Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons, we expect the meta to shake up yet again. The 2020 rotation will happen in April 2020, which may allow some of the underperforming cards from Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons to shine if they do not find a place once they release in 2019.
