The Witcher 4 Might Be In The Works After All Following CDPR Confirmation

The Witcher 4 may finally have entered development following confirmation

After The Witcher 3 ended and every gamer’s attention turned to CDPR’s next project Cyberpunk 2077, a large number of Witcher fans kept asking the developers about a new Witcher 4 game. We did get Thronebreaker and Gwent in recent years, but what we truly want is a full-fledged Witcher game. After denying that a new flagship Witcher game is in the works, CDPR has confirmed that the studio will be putting out more games from their best franchise

Dual-Franchise The Witcher 4?

According to one of the developers, CDPR is currently working on a more sustainable dual-franchise model. We are not sure what it means precisely, but Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 4 may be combined into one game. The announcement was made during the 2019 bi-annual earnings call by CDPR.

Prior to the release of The Witcher 4 or its confirmation, we had conflicting reports in the past. Adam Badowski initially revealed that the studio is not working on a new Witcher game. But his statement changed in 2019 when he revealed that The Witcher 4 might indeed be in the works. It indicates that the upcoming Witcher game may have gone into development earlier this year.

Another issue that CDPR faces currently is that it is an independent publisher. It does not have the capacity to push out multiple AAA titles every single year, unlike other game development studios out there. It makes sense that CDPR is working on The Witcher 4, which is its most successful franchise.

The Future of The Witcher Franchise

The Witcher 4 may be in the works but a lot of banks on the financial stability of CDPR. Cyberpunk 2077 is not too far away, and it all rests on the game’s success to see if CDPR can self-sustain itself with a project as big as The Witcher 4. If Cyberpunk 2077 fails to live up to the hype, which is not something we want to see, The Witcher 4 would be the fallback option for CDPR.

If Cyberpunk 2077 does become successful, then the vision of CDPR’s dual-universe game will also be realized, if not a standalone Witcher game with higher production value off of Cyberpunk’s success. Either way, we do not think that an upcoming Witcher project will be scratched off by any means.

Four years have passed since the release of The Witcher 3, and it is still the number one source of revenue for CDPR. Games like Gwent and Thronebreaker were not exactly AAA production value projects even though they are great games in their respective rights.

We can expect more information on Witcher 4 only after the release of Cyberpunk 2077, which is going to happen in 2077. We had hints about Cyberpunk 2077 within Witcher 3 through Ciri’s monologue. We may have some Easter eggs and teasers for The Witcher in a similar fashion as well. Stay tuned to our website for any updates surrounding the upcoming Witcher game, and we will be the first to let you know if anything comes up.
