After two delays, Rockstar Games has locked Grand Theft Auto VI in for November 19, 2026. On August 27, the studio released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, a roughly 26-minute presentation that premiered on Netflix before arriving on YouTube and the official GTA VI site. It is the longest look at the game Rockstar has shown, and it was captured in-game on PlayStation 5. Here’s what is confirmed about the release, editions, map and gameplay, and which popular claims are still just rumours.

1. Release Date, Platforms and Pre-Load

GTA 6 launches worldwide on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders went live on June 25, 2026. Digital pre-order holders can pre-load the game from November 12, a week before launch. Rockstar has not published an official install size. Community estimates of 150–200GB are unconfirmed, but clearing plenty of space before pre-load is sensible.

Rockstar has not announced a PC version. Its recent pattern has been console-first: Grand Theft Auto V reached PC about 19 months after its original console launch, and Red Dead Redemption 2 about 13 months after. Treat any “late 2027” PC date as speculation until Rockstar says otherwise. If you’re looking for portable PC gaming in the meantime, see our guide to the best handheld gaming PCs in 2026.

2. Leonida and Vice City: What Rockstar Has Shown

GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, Rockstar’s satirical version of modern-day Florida. Vice City, the series’ Miami stand-in, is the centrepiece, but the official GTA VI site also highlights several other regions:

Region What to expect
Vice City The neon-soaked, Miami-inspired metropolis at the heart of the map
Leonida Keys A chain of islands and ocean highways to the south
Grassrivers Everglades-style wetlands, complete with alligators
Port Gellhorn A run-down coastal town away from the big city
Ambrosia An inland, industrial farming region
Mount Kalaga National Park Leonida’s rugged backcountry of forests and trails

Rockstar has not published an official map size or a count of enterable interiors, so treat any specific numbers you see online as guesses.

3. Gameplay Changes Shown in the Extended Look

Jason and Lucia

GTA 6 follows two protagonists, Lucia and Jason, a criminal couple working their way through Leonida. Lucia is the series’ first female lead since the top-down days of the original Grand Theft Auto era.

A more grounded arsenal

Breakdowns of the Extended Look show that the bottomless weapon wheel of GTA V is gone. Your character carries a limited loadout on their person, reported as up to two rifles and two pistols. Extra weapons are stored in a vehicle’s trunk or at a safehouse. Trunks can also hold spare outfits, which becomes important once the police are looking for you.

A smarter Wanted system

According to the same breakdowns, a Wanted level is no longer triggered automatically. A crime has to be seen by a witness or set off an alarm. Once you’re wanted, police track details such as your appearance, clothing, vehicle, CCTV sightings and whether Jason and Lucia are together. Changing outfits, switching cars and splitting up the pair all help you lose them. The Wanted meter also returns to six stars, up from GTA V’s five.

4. Editions, Pricing and Pre-Order Bonuses

  • Standard Edition, $79.99: The base game.
  • Ultimate Edition, $99.99: Adds an exclusive collection of vehicles, weapons, apparel and other extras. According to coverage of Rockstar’s announcement, you can upgrade from Standard to Ultimate after launch.
  • Vintage Vice City Pack: Included with every pre-order of either edition. It contains retro ’80s clothing for Jason and Lucia and tropical-pattern weapon skins inspired by Tommy Vercetti.

No Deluxe or Collector’s Edition has been announced. According to Variety, physical copies will be a code in a box rather than a game disc. Buy digitally if you want the November 12 pre-load.

5. Performance on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S

This is where the most misinformation is circulating. Here is what has actually been said:

  • Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson told YouTuber Davy Jones that GTA 6 currently runs at 30fps on consoles, as reported by TechRadar and Kotaku. He said the technical team would need to confirm whether a 60fps option arrives at launch or later.
  • The Extended Look was captured on a base PS5.
  • Rockstar has not confirmed a PS5 Pro-specific mode, a 60fps mode, or resolution targets for any console. Any table claiming exact “Pro” frame rates is speculation.
