The Most Fun Town Halls in Clash of Clans, Ranked

Fun and best are not the same thing in Clash of Clans. After more than a decade and eighteen Town Hall levels, some are a genuine joy to live in, and others are a loot grind you simply survive. The most fun you will ever have in CoC is at the Town Hall, where the game suddenly clicks, your attacks start landing, and every upgrade feels like flipping on a cheat code. So here is every Town Hall worth caring about, ranked by how much fun it actually is to play, not by how big the number is.

What Makes a Town Hall Actually Fun

My ranking rewards three things. First, meaningful unlocks: a new hero, a new troop, or a defense that bends the meta. Second, a balanced attack-versus-defense meta where smart play beats raw hero levels. Third, sane progression, so you spend more time three-starring than watching a builder timer tick down. Shiny is nice. Playable is better. With that settled, here is the tier list.

TH9, the Balanced Classic That Still Hits Hardest

clash

TH9 is the people’s champion, and it earns the title. This is where the Archer Queen joins your army, where X-Bows first bristle on your home village, and where dark elixir troops like Witches and Lava Hounds crack open real strategy. The matchmaking is forgiving, the war meta rewards clean funneling over a fat wallet, and a well-timed GoWiPe or Lavaloon will three-star a maxed base if your spell placement is sharp. No pets to babysit, no five heroes to feed, just lean, mean Clash. Ask anyone who climbed to the top which Town Hall they secretly miss, and a suspicious number will say this one.

TH13 and the Royal Champion Power Trip

Reaching TH13 unlocks the Royal Champion, and her Seeking Shield, which ricochets through walls and defensive buildings, is one of the most satisfying abilities in the game. On the other side of the wall, you finally get the Scattershot, a brutal tower that lobs splash damage into blimp and hound stacks. The catch, and every TH13 player will warn you, is the grind. Hero and lab upgrade times balloon here, and no research potion makes the dark elixir bill painless. The gameplay is a blast once you are settled, but the climb genuinely tests your patience.

That gap between wanting the fun part and grinding for months to reach it is real. It is why some players skip the climb and pick up a pre-leveled account from a marketplace like igitems, or browse the same listings on its Spanish storefront, landing straight on the Town Hall they actually want to play.

TH11, Where the Grand Warden Rewrites Your Strategy

TH11 hands you the Grand Warden, your third hero, and the closest thing CoC has to a win button. His Eternal Tome shrugs off a town hall’s worth of damage at the perfect moment, and the Warden walk became a core strategy almost overnight. On defense, you unlock the Eagle Artillery, which snipes your biggest investments out of the sky and punishes anyone who throws a lazy wave of Giants at your base.

TH14 and TH15, When Pets Change the Math

clash1

TH14 introduced the Pet House, and hero pets quietly became one of the game’s best systems. A L.A.S.S.I glued to your Queen or an Electro Owl trailing your Warden adds a whole layer of tactics, and TH15 only deepened the bench with more pets and the Electro Titan to throw at maxed war bases. Some players treat pet upgrades as a chore. I think bolting a flying owl onto a hero is exactly the kind of weird this game should lean into.

TH17 and TH18, the Bleeding Edge and the Guardian Gamble

The newest toys live up here, and the two most recent updates pulled the meta in very different directions.

TH17

The TH17 update, which arrived in late 2024, swapped the old Giga Inferno for the Inferno Artillery, added the aim-it-yourself Firespitter, and handed everyone the Minion Prince, a flying hero you can field as early as TH9. The new Hero Hall lets you split your roster into attackers and defenders, so the heroes guarding your base are no longer the same ones you take to war. It is a smart, flexible level that rewards players who like to tinker.

TH18

Then TH18 crash-landed in November 2025 and tore up the rulebook. The Town Hall lost its built-in weapon entirely. In its place sits the Guardian System: two selectable Guardians, the melee Smasher that drops a Rage spell when it dies, and the long-range Longshot, defending your core. You also get the Super Wizard Tower, a merged defense that chains lightning across up to fifteen troops. Early-meta TH18 is chaos, and that chaos is its own kind of fun.

The Patience Tier: TH10, TH12, and TH16

Honesty time, because not every level is a party. TH10, with its first Inferno Towers, and TH12, with the first Giga Tesla town hall weapon, are transitional grinds you push through more than enjoy. TH16 is the strange one. It has the best content density in the game, with the Monolith, hero equipment via the Blacksmith, and merged defensive buildings like the Multi-Archer Tower and Ricochet Cannon, yet the upgrade bill is so enormous that the fun arrives in slow motion. Great destination, punishing road.
